Somali President appoints new deputy army chief of SNA

MOGADISHU October 10, 2019 (AO) – President Mohamed Farmaajo has appointed new deputy army chief as the military ratchets up operations in southern parts of the country.

The office of the Somalia’s president announced today that the President had appointed Brigadier General Mohamed Ali Barise becomes the new deputy army commander.

The appointment which are seen as strategic reconfiguration of the military leadership comes amid heightened military offensives in Lower Shabelle and Lower Jubba regions.

SNA troops have in the last couple of months conducted major operations killing several Al-Shabaab militants and capturing new towns in the southern regions.
