More than 92 killed, close to 130 injured in deadly bombing in Somalia

December 28, 2019 (AO) – More than 92 and  people were killed and close to 130 injured in a truck bombing attack in Ex-Control area in the outskirts of Mogadishu.

The Ministry of Information said in a statement 26 people were killed but multiple sources indicate the death toll was much higher.

Mogadishu mayor Omar Filish told reporters at the scene of the incident those injured were 90 but said he would later release the official death toll.

Majority of the casualties were Banaadir Universirt students and school students, the mayor said.

Filish who also doubles as Banaadir Regional Administration Governor said the truck loaded with explosives was heading to the capital Mogadishu but was stopped by security forces.

Initial reports had indicated the truck was targeting a branch of the inland revenue department. Several vehicles which were on traffic were destroyed as fire razed down structures in the areas as fear gripped the locality.
